My early years were spent in a small rural community on what had been a modern dairy farm of the day. It was no longer run as a commercial concern, but there was a full range of animals (Cattle, horses, pigs and poultry.) as well as 6 sisters and one brother. I attended what was then a very small country school, and was not an A grade student. For my secondary education I went to boarding school with the same results. From there I moved on directly to working on sheep and cattle stations in
After I finished my degree I did not take long to realize I did not enjoy living in big cities and so moved to Hervey Bay where I still live .I moved into my own business, involved in the timber industry at a retail manufacturing and installation level. During this time I acquired a fairly good understanding of timber, it’s properties, different species and how to work it.
This led me to take up full time woodturning and carving, which I had been interested in for some years. I closed down my business and here I am.
I taught myself the basics and with the help and advice from people with the knowledge who were prepared to pass it on. To those people I give my thanks. I still find each day a learning experience.
My other interests are fishing and camping with
my son, other members of my extended family
and friends. Most of these trips are annual events.
